Homeowner’s Guide to Elevation Certificates (FEMA)

This document, the “Homeowner’s Guide to Elevation Certificates“, is provided by FEMA, and offers a detailed explanation of what elevation certificates are, how to obtain one, and why they are needed.  If you do not already have a current flood elevation certificate, you may want to obtain one.  The information contained in a flood elevation certificate can help you decide to whether or not to elevate your home, and is also used to determine what flood insurance premium you are likely to have to pay.  In addition, if you are considering selling your home, most buyers will ask for a flood insurance certificate as part of the process of making an offer.  Many surveyors offer this service, and the cost of an elevation certificate is typically insignificant when compared to the value of your property.
